It lost ground for the week following three weeks of gains. The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 0.2%. The Nasdaq composite edged up 0.1%. Broadcom surged after the semiconductor company beat Wall Street’s profit targets and gave a glowing forecast, highlighting its artificial intelligence products. Stocks slipped in afternoon trading Friday as Wall Street closes out a rare bumpy week. The S&P 500 was up by less than 0.1% and is on track for a loss for the week after three straight weekly gains. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 58 points, or 0.1% to 43,856 as of 3 p.m. Eastern time. The Nasdaq rose 0.1% and is hovering around its record. Broadcom surged 24.9% for the biggest gain in the S&P 500 after the semiconductor company beat Wall Street’s profit targets and gave a glowing forecast, highlighting its artificial intelligence products. The company also raised its dividend. The company's big gain helped cushion the market's broader fall. Pricey stock values for technology companies like Broadcom give the sector more weight in pushing the market higher or lower. Artificial intelligence technology has been a focal point for the technology sector and the overall stock market over the last year. Tech companies, and Wall Street, expect demand for AI to continue driving growth for semiconductor and other technology companies. Even so, some big tech stocks were in the red Friday. Nvidia slid 2.6%, Meta Platforms dropped 1.7% and Netflix was down 0.7%. Furniture and housewares company RH, formerly known as Restoration Hardware, surged 14.2% after raising its forecast for revenue growth for the year. Wall Street's rally stalled this week amid mixed economic reports and ahead of the Federal Reserve's last meeting of the year. The central bank will meet next week and is widely expected to cut interest rates for a third time since September. Expectations of a series of rate cuts has driven the S&P 500 to 57 all-time highs so far this year . The Fed has been lowering its benchmark interest rate following an aggressive rate hiking policy that was meant to tame inflation. It raised rates from near-zero in early 2022 to a two-decade high by the middle of 2023. Inflation eased under pressure from higher interest rates, nearly to the central bank's 2% target. The economy, including consumer spending and employment, held strong despite the squeeze from inflation and high borrowing costs. A slowing job market, though, has helped push a long-awaited reversal of the Fed's policy. Inflation rates have been warming up slightly over the last few months. A report on consumer prices this week showed an increase to 2.7% in November from 2.6% in October. The Fed's preferred measure of inflation, the personal consumption expenditures index, will be released next week. Wall Street expects it to show a 2.5% rise in November, up from 2.3% in October. The economy, though, remains solid heading into 2025 as consumers continue spending and employment remains healthy, said Gregory Daco, chief economist at EY. “Still, the outlook is clouded by unusually high uncertainty surrounding regulatory, immigration, trade and tax policy,” he said. Treasury yields edged higher. The yield on the 10-year Treasury rose to 4.40% from 4.34% late Thursday. European markets slipped. Britain's FTSE 100 fell 0.1%. Britain’s economy unexpectedly shrank by 0.1% month-on-month in October, following a 0.1% decline in September, according to data from the Office for National Statistics. Members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Bajrang Dal on Saturday lodged a complaint against an associate of endowment minister Konda Surekha, alleging that the Sri Raja Rajeshswara Swamy temple had handed over around 60 Rajanna Kodes (oxen donated by devotees) to him in violation of norms. In the complaint with the Geesukonda at Hanamkonda, they alleged that temple officials handed over 60 cows to Ram Babu, the minister’s associate, on August 12. They alleged Ram Babu dealt in cows and ran a goshala in the name of Sri Raja Rajeshwar Swamy in Geesukonda mandal. Devotees who visit Vemulawada temple offer Kode Mokku (donating cows and oxen) to the presiding deity. The donated cattle are kept in the temple’s goshala. Since it does not have enough space, the government decided to distribute extra cows to poor farmers under certain guidelines. All donated cows and oxen are tagged. Farmers have to apply to temple for cows with identity documents and land papers; their applications need to be endorsed by the local agriculture officer. Farmers who get the cows must not sell them. Geesukonda circle inspector K. Mahendar told Deccan Chronicle that on the complaint of the VHP, a case was registered against Ram Babu. An investigation is in progress to find out whether the cows Ram Babu got were from Vemulawada temple. A letter was also sent to the Vemulawada temple authorities seeking clarification, he added. Vemulawada temple executive officer K. Vinod Reddy, speaking to Deccan Chronicle, condemned the allegations and said that the temple officials had not distributed any cows to Ram Babu’s goshala. The temple has nothing to do with the minister’s purported recommendation letter which was circulated on social media, he said. A complaint will also be lodged with the local police regarding the issue and requesting an investigation. Meanwhile, the BJP staged a dharna in front of the temple office demanding suspension of EO Vinod Reddy. Reacting to the allegations, Surekha said it was an attempt to malign the Congress government. She said the temple had about 1,500 cows and oxen donated by devotees. The government had decided to distribute them to poor and eligible farmers who can look after them. Explaining the process of allotting cattle to farmers, she said applications received by a minister were sent to authorities concerned. The Vemulawada temple authorities distributed the cows following the norms. Cows and oxen distributed by the temple will have tags which are impossible to remove, she said. Stringent action would be taken against miscreants for spreading lies, she added.

Their subsequent free fall has been even more jarring. The Cardinals could have moved into a tie for first place in the NFC West with a home win over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. Instead, they were thoroughly outplayed in a 30-18 loss and are now tied for last in the tightly packed division. Arizona has lost three straight and will face an uphill battle to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2021. The Seahawks (8-5) are in first place, followed by the Rams (7-6), Cardinals (6-7) and 49ers (6-7). Even more daunting for their playoff hopes, the Cardinals lost both of their games against the Seahawks this season, meaning a tiebreaker would go to Seattle. Four games remain. “I just told them we put ourselves in a little bit of a hole now, but all you can do is attack tomorrow, learn tomorrow and have a good week of practice,” second-year coach Jonathan Gannon said. There are plenty of reasons the Cardinals lost to the Seahawks, including Kyler Murray’s two interceptions, a handful of holding penalties, a porous run defense and a brutal missed field goal. It all adds up to the fact Arizona is playing its worst football of the season at a time when it needed its best. “I’m sure we’ll stick to our process, but we have to tweak some things,” Gannon said. “I have to tweak some things.” What’s working It’s probably faint praise, but the Cardinals did make the game interesting in the second half while trying to fight back from a 27-10 deficit. Murray’s shovel pass to James Conner for a 2-yard touchdown and subsequent 2-point conversion cut the margin to 27-18. The Cardinals had a chance to make it a one-score contest early in the fourth quarter, but Chad Ryland’s 40-yard field goal attempt bounced off the left upright. “I thought we spotted them a lot of points there, but then we battled back,” Gannon said. “I appreciate their effort. That was good. We battled back there, had a couple chances to even cut the lead a little more, but ultimately didn’t get it done.” What needs help Murray’s in a bit of a mini-slump after throwing two interceptions in back-to-back games for the first time in his career. He also didn’t do much in the run game against the Seahawks, with 16 yards on three carries. The quarterback’s decision-making was nearly flawless for much of the season and the Cardinals need that good judgment to return. “I’m not looking at it like I have to try to be Superman,” Murray said. “I don’t think that’s the answer. I just need to play within the offense like we’ve done for the majority of the season. Today, I didn’t. Like I said, throwing two picks puts yourself behind the eight ball.” Said Gannon: “I thought he stuck in there and made some big time throws, though, but he has to protect the ball a little bit better. That’s not just him, that’s all 11. So there’ll be a lot of corrections off those plays.” Stock up The defense didn’t have its best day, but it’s not Budda Baker’s fault. The two-time All-Pro safety is having another phenomenal season and was all over the field against the Seahawks, finishing with 18 tackles. Baker’s energy is relentless and he’s the unquestioned leader of a group that has been better than expected this season, even with Sunday’s mediocre performance. Stock down Left tackle Paris Johnson Jr. had a tough day, getting flagged for holding three times, though one of those penalties was declined by the Seahawks. The second-year player moved from right tackle to the left side during the offseason and the transition has gone well, but Sunday was a step backward. Injuries The Cardinals remain fairly healthy. Devan, known as @601devan on TikTok, posted a video from his car while wearing the blue Walmart vest. His public service announcement warned female customers: "If you use public bathrooms, stop what you're doing, and listen to this," he said. "You're gonna see why." He urged viewers to inspect toilet paper dispensers and the rolls themselves before using them, citing the risk of contamination from IV drug users and their needles. Devan accompanied his message with a photo of a toilet paper roll, riddled with red holes that resembled bloodstains along the side. "This is exactly what I'm talking about," he said, gesturing towards the photo on the screen. "This is from needle using junkies going into the bathroom, taking that cover that's over it off, sticking their needles in there and cleaning their needles." He explained that while not all rolls will have visible blood spots, customers should still check for pin-like holes. He emphasised that needles don't always remain bloody after use. "For all my ladies out there, you have no choice but to use toilet paper, so I suggest check your toilet paper before you sit down to use the bathroom, or just bring wipes of your own," he added. Despite informing his followers that he had only personally encountered drug-contaminated toilet paper a couple of times, thousands of viewers expressed a newfound fear of public restrooms in the comments. "I will go without wiping if it takes," one person wrote. "Never even knew this." "Thanks for the advice!! This is crazy!! How scary simple things like toilet paper can be a hazard," another said. "Omg! I was just thinking about what could be in the toilet paper because everything else is poison! And now this comes up. Thanks for the warning!" said another. The horrifying claims come amid reports of an increasingly apparent substance abuse crisis in the United States. Amidst the bustling streets of Midtown Manhattan, the New York Post reported sightings of people with a substance use disorder as early as 11 AM, slumped in a drug-induced haze with needles piercing their veins. The report further added that people with an addiction have also begun injecting drugs on subways during the rush-hour morning commute. In another viral video from September, Dane Jones, a self-proclaimed "social media watchdog," warned his followers about the devastating effects of coming into contact with drug-contaminated blood from bathroom toilet paper. "If you are using this toilet paper to clean yourself, all it takes is one tiny drop of blood to enter your system," Jones warned, offering amateur medical advice about avoiding HIV/AIDS and hepatitis B or C infections. "If you do see a toilet paper roll that looks [bloodstained] in a public restroom, notify the staff immediately to have it replaced and stay as far away as you can from it," he continued. While Jones, certainly not a medical professional, isn't entirely wrong. According to the US Centers for Disease Control ( CDC ) and Prevention, it can survive in a drop of blood or bodily fluid or even on a dry surface for weeks and still potentially cause infection. The hepatitis C virus, specifically, can survive on environmental surfaces at room temperature for up to four days. Now it is still important to note how these diseases actually spread. According to HIV.gov , Hepatitis B and C can spread through: HIV transmission requires direct contact with specific bodily fluids from an infected person with a detectable viral load, according to HIV.org . These fluids are: blood, semen, vaginal fluids, rectal fluids, and breast milk. The virus enters the body through mucous membranes, open wounds, or injections. A former Knights lower-grade player is set to try his hand at American football after being announced as one of five players from the Asia-Pacific to join the NFL's International Player Pathway (IPP) program in 2025. Login or signup to continue reading Laitia Moceidreke, who spent about 18 months at the Knights before being released after last season, is set to test his skills alongside the likes of Australian rugby union player Jordan Petaia in the renowned development system. The NFL confirmed the duo's inclusion in the program on Tuesday morning. The other Asia-Pacific athletes are Laki Tasi, Nathaniel Salmon and Janeiro Wakeham. Moceidreke, after joining the Knights in mid-2023 from North Queensland, played 32 NSW Cup games over the past two years but couldn't crack Newcastle's NRL side. The outside-back was upgraded to a development contract in February , outside the top-30 roster, after a handy showing in in Newcastle's first pre-season trial at Gosford. But the 24-year-old appeared to fall out of favour and played a handful of games for Lakes United in the Newcastle Rugby League first-grade competition towards the back end of the 2024 campaign. The IPP, which was established in 2017, aims to create opportunities for players from other sports to play American football at the highest level. Former South Sydney forward turned Philadelphia Eagles star Jordan Mailata is the most well known Australian to have participated in the program. The 2025 edition will feature 14 athletes representing 13 countries. Starting in January, they'll spend 10 weeks training in Florida before auditioning in front of club scouts.
